A school near Pawtucket, Rhode Island is working closely with Soliant Schools with finding a certified high school Special Education Teacher to join their Severe Intellectual Disability team for the school year. The ideal candidate is experienced with utilizing adaptive devices/technology to provide access to general curricular content to individuals with disabilities, and holds an active Special Education Teaching certificate for the state of Rhode Island. Job Description:

The job of Teacher, Intellectually Disabled - Severe is responsible for developing special education students’ success in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities, and outcomes. Some of the duties include addressing students’ specific needs as having severe and/or profound disabilities in more than one area, providing a safe and optimal learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.


  • Provides direct instruction to students as having two or more major disabilities
  • Advise parents and/or legal guardian of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment
  • Assesses students’ social needs (e.g. behavioral, motor, development, communication, etc.), academic needs, progress, expectations and goals etc. (e.g. developmental level, vocational abilities, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating students and family requirements, placement and success of the program.
  • Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum
  • Provides direction to instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students. Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information
  • Prepares teaching materials and related reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress
  • Performs job assignment safely for the purpose of protecting people and property
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, administrative and/or school policies
  • Performs job assignment safely for the purpose of protecting people and property
  • Performs other related duties as assigned 


  • Full-time Position (Monday-Friday)
  • Caseload: High School, Severe Intellectual abilities classroom (7 Students)

  • Must have an active Special Education Teaching Certification for the state of Rhode Island
  • Must have a bachelor's or master's degree in Special Education Teaching
  • Experience working in Severe ID Special Education Classroom Preferred
