Certified California Special Education Teacher Job - Upcoming School Year

ProCare Therapy is seeking a passionate Special Education Teacher this upcoming school year for a position located near the San Francisco Bay.  This is an excellent school district with tons of support from wonderful colleagues and students. For anyone commuting for this position, we can provide travel and housing stipends to help compensate for the drive, and we can connect about interviews immediately.

  1. Demonstrate command of school subject being taught.
    1. Provide direct instruction and/or specially designed instruction to students in special programs consistent with the district's curriculum and Individual Education Programs (IEP).
    2. Consult with classroom teachers and/or local school administrator to develop and maintain academic as well as behavioral management programs.
    3. Participate as an active member of the regular faculty of the school, assuming school duties shared by classroom teachers.
    4. Conduct in-service programs to the faculty regarding special education, specific program areas, management techniques, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), etc
    5. Communicate and work collaboratively with regular educators to support students with disabilities in regular classrooms.
  2. Develop and prioritize long and short-term instructional objectives based on the district's curriculum.
    1. Plan instruction as needed to promote student mastery of prerequisite skills and knowledge.
    2. Analyze student work and assessments to determine instructional needs.
    3. Prepare written lesson plans to support instructional objectives of the AKS for all students.
    4. Plan appropriate assessment of student learning.
    5. Evaluate, select, and modify resources and activities.
  3. Provide initial focus for the lesson
    1. Communicate specific learning objectives to students in a clear manner.
    2. Link lesson content to students' prior knowledge, background experience, and/or real-world application of content.
    3. Capture student attention through active involvement.
  4. Organize content for presentation of the lesson.
  5. Utilize scientifically researched effective instructional strategies and ways of providing information for students to acquire the learning.
  6. Provide formative assessment that measures student progress toward objective(s).
  7. Provide summative assessment, which measures student achievement of objectives(s).
  8. Organize the learning environment to maximize student time on task.
    1. Organize and arrange the classroom to facilitate learning
    2. Ensure smooth transitions from one activity to another.
    3. Maintain an orderly system for housekeeping duties including attendance, passes, announcements, distributing and collecting materials, and homework assignments.
  9. Maintain behavior, which is conducive to learning.
    1. Define and communicate behavior expectations to students in a clear manner.
    2. Monitor behavior and provide appropriate feedback to students.
    3. Deal effectively with inappropriate behavior.
    4. Focus on student behavior rather than personality.
    5. Treat sensitive situations with discretion.
    6. Encourage participation from all students.
    7. Establish mutual respect between the teacher and students.
    8. Convey warmth, friendliness, and enthusiasm.
  10. Assist with the physical needs of special education students when appropriate.
    1. Assist with toileting, feeding, positioning, lifting, dressing, and other self-help skill areas as needed.
    2. Provide to support ostomy care, catheterization, and/or other medically related procedures as needed.
  11. Oversee the due process.
    1. Demonstrate a general understanding of IDEIA and state guidelines for special education and implement specific eligibility/program guidelines in accordance with the program(s) in which they are assigned.
    2. Coordinate and/or serve on eligibility and placement teams.
    3. Maintain complete records on children served according to due process and county guidelines as well as the completion of required local, state, and federal reporting forms.
    4. Inform designated school administrative personnel of program progress, issues, and/or concerns.
    5. Comply with federal, state, and district due process policies and procedures.
  12. Participate professional growth activities.
    1. Apply new knowledge and skills acquired in planning and delivery of student instruction.
    2. Demonstrate evidence of progress toward individual goals plan.
  13. Execute professional responsibilities.
    1. Use standard written expression
    2. Use acceptable oral expression.
    3. Demonstrate punctuality to class, to assigned duties, and to other school activities.
    4. Submit records, reports, and forms accurately and in a timely manner.
    5. Provide clear plans for substitute teachers.
    6. Maintain regular attendance.
    7. Demonstrate a willingness to share ideas, methods, and materials.
    8. Cooperate with staff and support the development of activities/goals of the local school
    9. Encourage positive home/school communications.


  • Master's in Special Education
  • Mild-Moderate or Moderate-Severe Certification
  • California State Licensure
  • 2 years minimum classroom experience
