Special Education Teacher - Extended School Year (ESY)

Job Summary: As a Special Education Teacher for ESY, you will provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in a structured and inclusive environment. You will work collaboratively with other educators, support staff, and families to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that promote academic and social growth. This position offers an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact on the educational journey of students during the summer months and potentially beyond.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) based on student assessments and goals.
• Adapt instructional strategies and materials to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
• Provide direct instruction in various subject areas, incorporating differentiated instruction and assistive technology as needed.
• Utilize effective behavior management techniques to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to facilitate inclusive practices.
• Monitor student progress, assess learning outcomes, and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive student records, including progress reports and IEP documentation.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns.
• Participate in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide initiatives as required.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Valid Maryland State Teaching Certification in Special Education.
• Previous experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in an educational setting.
• Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) based on student needs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support the academic and social growth of students with exceptional needs.
