Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Job Summary: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to providing high-quality educational experiences to students with diverse learning needs. The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs), collaborating with general education teachers and other staff, and creating an inclusive learning environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Provide direct instruction in academic, social, and life skills areas.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to ensure that students receive appropriate support and services.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance, attendance, and behavior.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment that encourages student engagement and learning.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and interventions as needed.
  • Stay current with best practices in special education and comply with state and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid Alabama teaching certificate in Special Education.
  • Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status in Special Education as defined by the Alabama State Department of Education.
  • Experience working with students with a wide range of disabilities, including learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Knowledge of state and federal special education laws and regulations, including IDEA.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use assessment data to inform instruction and track student progress.
  • Experience with assistive technology and other resources to support student learning is a plus.

Certifications and Licensure:

  • Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in Special Education.
  • Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) designation in Special Education.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (preferred).

Working Conditions:

  • Work is typically performed in a classroom setting.
  • May involve working with students who have physical or emotional challenges.
  • Occasional travel for meetings, professional development, and home visits may be required.
