Make a difference every day supporting students’ unique learning needs in a welcoming elementary setting focused on growth and collaboration. This contract position is available for an experienced Special Education teacher ready to work in a dynamic environment serving K4-5th grade students in a self-contained/extended resource classroom.
You’ll join a team of four dedicated special education professionals, each with a distinct focus, fostering a supportive peer atmosphere. The role includes working with 8-12 students, some attending all day, and others for targeted instruction in English Language Arts and/or math. An instructional assistant is on hand to lend support, and an on-site special education coach is available at least one day per week to provide additional guidance and assistance in the classroom.
Key qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education (South Carolina credentials preferred or eligibility required)
- Experience working in resource or self-contained special education settings
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet a range of learning styles and academic levels
- Strong classroom and behavior management skills
- Commitment to collaboration and communication with colleagues, families, and support staff
- Flexibility and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Creating and adapting instructional materials for various learning needs
- Providing direct instruction and support to identified students, both in groups and one-on-one
- Tracking student progress and maintaining required documentation
- Coordinating with classroom teachers, therapists, and the special education coach to optimize student outcomes
- Participating in IEP meetings and ongoing professional development
