Make a meaningful impact as a Special Education Teacher working with a dedicated group of middle school students in a self-contained classroom environment. This contract role focuses on supporting a caseload of 8 students within a functional (RISE) program using an alternative curriculum, ensuring tailored instruction and care for each learner. The position is full-time, 35 hours per week, and runs from now until June 9, 2027.
Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid Special Education teaching certification (Illinois credentials preferred)
- Experience or background working with students in grades 6-8, especially within a self-contained setting
- Familiarity with functional or life skills programming and alternative curriculum
- Strong classroom management, collaboration, and communication skills
- Flexibility, patience, and a commitment to fostering student growth
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans aligned with each student’s IEP within the functional program structure
- Adapt instructional materials and teaching methods to support diverse learning needs and abilities
- Provide a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment
- Collaborate with support staff, related service providers, and families to monitor and promote student progress
- Track and document educational benchmarks, IEP goal achievement, and behavioral data
- Participate in IEP meetings, staff professional development, and school-wide initiatives
