Special Education Teacher | Carson City, Michigan
An exciting opportunity awaits for Special Education professionals passionate about making a profound difference in students' lives during the 2026-2027 school year. This contract role supports programs serving students with a broad range of needs, including mild to severe disabilities, in self-contained classroom settings.
Openings include:
- Two Elementary Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Self-Contained positions
- One Middle/High School ASD Self-Contained position
- One Cognitive Impairments classroom serving a diverse population
You’ll work with students across elementary through high school ages who require specialized approaches for meaningful growth. These programs address significant behavioral and cognitive challenges within supportive environments tailored to individual goals. Please note, classroom support staff such as paraprofessionals, RBTs, CNAs, or LPNs will not be supplied.
Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education Teaching License required (substitute certifications not accepted)
- For High School Autism positions: bachelor’s degree with an endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder or other special education areas plus willingness to pursue additional coursework if needed
- Emotional Impairments certification or Autism endorsement required for applicable roles
- Experience managing a range of mild to severe behaviors preferred
- Dedication to fostering an inclusive and positive environment
Responsibilities:
- Create and adapt individualized lesson plans based on IEP goals
- Employ evidence-based strategies for academic, social, and behavioral development
- Collaborate with colleagues, families, and support networks
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed
- Maintain detailed records and compliance with educational requirements
