Special Education Teacher - Chicago, Illinois
Step into a meaningful teaching opportunity supporting middle school learners in a contract Special Education role near Chicago, IL. This position begins August 17, 2026, and runs through June 4, 2027, offering a chance to make a lasting impact in a collaborative school setting. With a 32.75-hour work week, you'll work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:15 PM (with a 42-minute unpaid lunch daily).
You will be guiding a class of 14 talented 6th and 7th graders in a variety of core academic areas. Your responsibilities include teaching instructional math and ELA to 6th-grade students, as well as team-teaching science and social studies in 7th grade, fostering both academic growth and the development of essential learning skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education Teacher certification or licensure for the state of Illinois
- Previous experience working with middle school students or similar age groups
- Ability to effectively manage a classroom and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to work with co-teachers and support staff
- Experience supporting math, ELA, science, and social studies curriculum for students with unique learning needs
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging and differentiated instruction across assigned subjects
- Collaborate with co-teachers in delivering team-taught lessons
- Track student progress and update IEPs to reflect academic and behavioral goals
- Communicate with families and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
