Special Education Teacher | Chicago, Illinois
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Special Education Teacher supporting young learners in the Chicago area. This position begins as soon as possible and continues through the end of the current school year, providing an excellent way to make an immediate impact while working with a close-knit team.
You’ll work a consistent full-time schedule, 37.5 to 40 hours per week (based on lunch break preferences), with all responsibilities based at a single school site. Your primary focus will be a caseload of 7-8 students in kindergarten through second grade, all with diverse abilities including developmental delays, Autism spectrum disorder, and ADHD. Your expertise and compassion will play a key role in helping these young learners thrive academically and socially.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid LBS1 Illinois certification (required)
- Experience with early elementary-aged children, ideally grades K-2
- Strong background in working with students with developmental delays, Autism, and ADHD
- Ability to develop and implement tailored IEPs and adjust strategies to meet individual needs
- Positive, collaborative approach to working with fellow educators, families, and support staff
- Excellent organizational, communication, and classroom management abilities
Your Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction using evidence-based interventions and curricula
- Adapt lessons and classroom environments for diverse learning needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records in compliance with state and federal guidelines
- Communicate regularly with families, celebrating successes and addressing challenges
- Support a culture of inclusion and respect within the classroom environment
