Special Education Teacher – Preschool Autism Class
A school district in the Columbia, SC area is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to work with preschool students receiving autism support services. This full-time role offers the opportunity to help young learners build foundational academic, communication, social, and behavioral skills in a supportive setting.
Opportunity Details
- Location: Columbia, SC
- Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday
- Start: As soon as possible following HR clearance
- End Date: May 2027
- Caseload: Approximately 4–10 students, with enrollment changing as additional students qualify
- Age Range: 3–4 years old
- School Sites: 1
Primary Duties
- Design and deliver individualized instruction based on student needs
- Incorporate IEP goals into daily classroom activities and instruction
- Provide developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for preschool students
- Support communication, social-emotional growth, behavior, and early academic development
- Gather progress data and adjust instruction based on student performance
- Coordinate IEP services and act as the Special Education Case Manager
- Complete IEPs, progress reports, and other required special education documentation
- Work collaboratively with families, educators, administrators, and related service professionals
- Establish a predictable, engaging, and supportive classroom environment
Requirements
- Valid South Carolina teaching certification in the appropriate special education area
- Experience with preschool special education and/or autism support is preferred
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and classroom management skills
- Ability to individualize instruction and respond to varying student needs
- Commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment
