Multiple positions are available for passionate Special Education Teachers eager to foster inclusive, engaging classrooms. Positions may serve students K-12 in either Cognitive Impairment (CI) or Resource classrooms, with varied caseloads and strong support from an onsite special education team.
You’ll teach in a self-contained classroom setting, with up to 22 students, alongside paraprofessionals and behavior specialists who help ensure every child’s unique needs are met. Professional growth is encouraged with access to mentorship, ongoing training, and academic support.
Desired Qualifications:
- Hold a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Learning Disabilities (LD) endorsement; preference for candidates also endorsed in Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitive Impairment (CI), MDE endorsement ZA (Early Childhood), or another area of special education
- Experience or comfort working in urban school settings
- Solid understanding of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and federal IDEA regulations
- Familiarity with the unique challenges faced by urban students and families, including awareness of community resources and strategies for support
- Capable of managing a caseload that may fluctuate based on evolving student needs
- Ability to provide official university transcripts prior to hiring
Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized education in self-contained or resource classrooms for students K-12
- Develop and implement IEPs in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and support staff
- Engage in remote interviews as part of the selection process
- Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, specialists, and mentors to optimize student outcomes
- Participate in professional development and educational training
