Special Education Teacher | Davison, Michigan
Seeking an enthusiastic and skilled professional to support elementary students as a Cognitive Impairment (CI) Teacher in a dynamic, full-team environment. This contract position specializes in a setting facilitated more like an ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) program, serving learners with significant self-regulation, communication, and mental health needs. The assignment runs from now through June 11, 2027, with core hours from 7:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.—including a 30-minute unpaid lunch—and is located onsite at a dedicated educational technology center.
Ideal candidates bring experience and passion for supporting children with autism, expertise in crisis management, and familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies. You will work collaboratively with allied professionals to ensure each student’s growth and well-being.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current CI (Cognitive Impairment) teaching certification (required)
- Previous experience in ASD-focused or similar programs
- Background in serving elementary-aged students
- Proficiency in implementing crisis management strategies
- Hands-on experience with AAC devices and techniques
- Ability to address mental health and behavioral challenges
- Collaborative mindset for working with a multidisciplinary team
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction tailored to cognitive and behavioral needs
- Collaborate with therapists, specialists, and paraprofessionals
- Develop and adapt lesson plans to support self-regulation and complex communication
- Monitor student progress, maintain records, and participate in team meetings
- Engage in crisis intervention when required, using established best practices
