Key qualifications and desired experience:
- Valid CI (Cognitive Impairment) teaching certification is required.
- Experience in a classroom or program supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) strongly preferred.
- Background in crisis management and use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems highly valued.
- Demonstrated success working with students who have significant self-regulation challenges and/or complex communication needs.
- Familiarity with mental health considerations in a school or pediatric setting is a plus.
- Comfortable collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
Primary responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, individualized instruction to elementary students, adapting methods and materials based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Facilitate growth in communication, social, and self-regulation skills, often employing AAC technology and behavioral strategies.
- Participate actively in team meetings, collaborating with mental health professionals, speech therapists, and other specialists.
- Implement crisis management protocols and maintain a supportive, safe classroom environment for all students.
- Foster family involvement and communicate regularly with guardians and fellow educators to promote student success.
- Maintain thorough documentation aligned with district and state requirements.
