You’ll play a pivotal role supporting K-12 students within self-contained and resource classroom settings, focusing on cognitive impairments, learning disabilities, and emotional impairments.
You’ll collaborate closely with an established special education team, dedicated classroom paraprofessionals, and behavior specialists. Onsite mentorship, professional development, and robust training from the Academics team ensure you’re never without guidance or support.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate—Learning Disabilities strongly preferred; Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitive Impairment (CI), MDE endorsement ZA (Early Childhood), or other special education area accepted
- Experience or endorsement working with K-12 students with cognitive impairments, emotional impairments, or learning disabilities
- Strong understanding of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and IDEA Federal Regulations
- Comfortable working in urban schools; able to discuss relevant resources and advocacy for students and families
- Copy of official university transcripts required prior to placement
- Previous experience in self-contained classrooms and/or resource room settings is advantageous
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide and support up to 22 students in self-contained or resource settings
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate with the school’s special education, paraprofessional, behavior, and academic teams
- Utilize and recommend appropriate resources for students and families navigating urban challenges
- Participate in ongoing training, mentorship, and professional development
