Special Education Teacher in Henderson, NC

Make a difference in students’ lives by bringing your passion for special education to an engaging role supporting learners with diverse needs. This contract position begins in August 2026 and runs through early June 2027, working full-time, Monday through Friday from 7:15am to 3:15pm.
You’ll serve a caseload of approximately 12 students with mild to moderate needs in a self-contained classroom, and support additional students in both middle and high school inclusion settings. There’s an opportunity to work with a range of grades and abilities, including a small group at a neighboring STEM school and a larger inclusion caseload for students with backgrounds in English.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Special Education Teacher in North Carolina
- Experience working with students with a variety of academic, behavioral, and learning challenges in a resource or self-contained setting
- Strong classroom management skills and ability to deliver individualized instruction
- Experience in IEP development, implementation, and compliance
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with students, staff, and families
- Background in English language instruction is a plus, but not required
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in self-contained and inclusion settings
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and administration to foster student growth
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with guidelines
- Offer additional support to students at the nearby STEM school
