Special Education Teacher - Irvington, New Jersey
Step into a rewarding role supporting elementary-aged students in a specialized educational environment focused on growth, independence, and meaningful communication. We are seeking dedicated Special Education Teachers to work in a Pre-K–1st Grade, self-contained Autism classroom serving six nonverbal students with the support of two paraprofessionals. This is a vital position designed to make an immediate and lasting impact, emphasizing both functional behavior and communication skills.
You’ll collaborate closely with a comprehensive team of professionals—including BCBA, OT, PT, and more—across a network of similar classrooms. The daily schedule supports work-life balance, running from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, giving you structured hours and time to truly connect with your students.
Qualifications:
- Current certification: TOSD + PreK-3 or TOH
- Proven experience in Autism classroom settings, particularly with nonverbal students
- Demonstrated ability to implement evidence-based interventions for communication and behavior
- Passion for working with a high-needs population and commitment to fostering independence
- Strong team collaboration and communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized, evidence-based instruction tailored to each student’s IEP
- Cultivate a supportive, structured classroom atmosphere for nonverbal learners
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues and paraprofessionals
- Collect and analyze student data to inform instruction and document progress
- Engage families and caregivers as partners in their child’s development
