Special Education Teacher - Kenner, LA

Step into a unique opportunity supporting special education in the New Orleans area! This contract position is designed for certified special education professionals passionate about collaboration and impactful teaching. As an itinerant special education teacher, you’ll play a key role in several schools, providing essential guidance and expertise to non-certified educators. Your work will directly enhance instructional quality and outcomes for students with special needs.
Key Qualifications:
- Active Louisiana Department of Education certification with a Special Education (SPED) endorsement (non-negotiable requirement)
- Previous experience as a special education teacher—itinerant or multi-site support experience is a plus
- Thorough understanding of IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
- Proficient in supporting classroom teachers with instructional strategies, data collection, and meaningful accommodations
- Willingness and ability to complete district-mandated credentialing, including drug testing and fingerprinting, in addition to standard background screening
Role Responsibilities:
- Support non-certified teachers within special education settings across multiple school sites throughout the academic year
- Collaborate in writing, updating, and managing IEPs, ensuring individualized goals are met
- Guide and model evidence-based instructional strategies and classroom management techniques
- Track and document student progress; assist with reporting and compliance requirements
- Flexibly adapt to the needs of different schools and caseloads as assigned
This full-time contract (35 hours per week, following the school calendar), begins as soon as possible and extends through May 27, 2027.
