Special Education Teacher in La Fayette, GA
Step into a fulfilling contract role shaping the lives of high school students in a dynamic special education setting. A dedicated Special Education Teacher is desired for the upcoming school year, working within a self-contained classroom focused on a functional curriculum. You’ll join a nurturing environment supported by two paraprofessionals and a Registered Behavior Technician, ensuring comprehensive support for your students’ unique educational journeys.
This full-time opportunity begins August 4th, 2026, and runs through May 26th, 2027, with the potential for additional pre- and post-planning days. There’s strong potential for contract renewal based on successful performance, offering career stability and growth.
Key Qualifications:
- Active GaPSC Special Education Certification, including SPED content through 8th grade
- Adapted Curriculum Endorsement required (or in progress; district will consider applicants with pending credentials)
- Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities in a self-contained classroom preferred
- Commitment to differentiated, functional instruction catered to individual student needs
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals and behavioral support staff
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver individualized, functional curriculum for a lower functioning self-contained classroom
- Lead a classroom team with two paraprofessionals and a Registered Behavior Technician
- Monitor, document, and report student progress regularly
- Implement evidence-based instructional and behavioral strategies to maximize student growth
- Engage proactively with families and support staff to enhance student outcomes
- Participate in IEP development, meetings, and compliance processes
