Your impact:
- Deliver individualized instruction in self-contained classrooms (up to 22 students), tailored for varying abilities and exceptionalities
- Foster a positive, inclusive environment to promote student growth—socially, academically, and emotionally
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and a robust special education team
- Develop and implement IEPs in alignment with Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and IDEA federal guidelines
- Regularly communicate with families, support staff, and administration to create comprehensive support networks
- Participate in ongoing professional development, mentorship, and training provided by the district's academic team
- Uphold high professional standards while navigating the unique challenges and rewards of working in an urban community
- Caseloads and grade assignments may vary based on ongoing student needs
Desired background:
- Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsements in Learning Disabilities (LD), Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitive Impairment (CI), or Early Childhood Special Education (ZA) plus another special education area
- Experience in special education, ideally within urban settings
- Solid understanding of MARSE and familiarity with IDEA regulations
- Strong communication skills, flexibility, and a commitment to equity in education
- Ability to thoughtfully address the specific needs and challenges of children in diverse, urban communities
- Official university transcripts are required prior to hire
- Comfort working onsite during the school calendar and collaborating remotely during the interview process
