Step into a dynamic, impactful role supporting students across Lehigh and Carbon Counties as a Special Education Teacher in an itinerant substitute capacity. For the 2026–2027 school year, educators with adaptability, empathy, and a strong behavioral support background are needed to serve specialized classrooms within approximately a 35-minute commute from several program sites. From enhanced autism classrooms to emotional support and multiple disabilities settings, you’ll make a difference for students requiring diverse instructional and social-emotional support.
Key Qualifications:
- Pennsylvania Special Education certification (required or preferred based on individual assignment)
- Prior classroom teaching experience in special education environments
- Proficiency in implementing IEP goals and delivering tailored instruction
- Strong classroom management and behavioral intervention skills
- Experience in collaboration with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and student families
- Comfortable with a flexible, multi-site work structure and adapting to changing needs
Preferred Experience:
- Expertise in autism support, including ABA-informed strategies, BIPs, communication supports, and sensory regulation
- Background in emotional support classrooms with strong knowledge of behavioral and emotional regulation supports
- Multiple disabilities support and adapted curriculum/life skills teaching
- Familiarity with IU or highly specialized education settings
Role Responsibilities:
- Serve as a substitute or leave coverage teacher, traveling to classrooms in need across different school settings
- Provide specialized instruction, behavioral support, and adapt programming to meet a diverse student population
- Foster a positive, inclusive environment for students with complex needs
- Document progress and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic student growth
