Special Education Teacher | North Adams, Massachusetts
Make a meaningful impact in the lives of young learners by supporting students with significant disabilities in a full-time, onsite contract role. This opportunity is tailored for educators passionate about special education, particularly those skilled in handling complex caseloads in elementary grades. Two classroom settings are available: one for Kindergarten–1st grade, the other for 3rd–5th grade, with both groups requiring comprehensive support for students with cognitive and physical disabilities. Some children are non-verbal, on the autism spectrum, and toileting assistance is occasionally necessary. Many students benefit from the collaboration of Registered Behavior Technicians, creating a supportive and resource-rich environment.
Preferred candidates bring expertise in specially designed instruction and applied behavior analysis, ensuring every student receives the individualized attention and strategies they need to thrive.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid Special Education licensure/certification.
- Previous experience with substantially separate classrooms or severe/profound caseloads preferred.
- Strong foundational knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
- Familiarity designing and implementing individualized, specially designed instruction.
- Ability to provide or coordinate toileting and personal care support when necessary.
- Collaborative mindset and exceptional communication skills for working with paraprofessionals and RBTs.
- Compassion, patience, and creative problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging and effective instruction tailored to the unique learning needs and abilities of each student.
- Develop, review, and adapt IEPs in partnership with related service providers and families.
- Implement ABA strategies and provide direct behavioral support.
- Coordinate daily with RBTs and paraprofessionals for optimal student support.
- Maintain detailed records of student progress and adapt instruction based on data.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
