Special Education Teacher in Oxford, MI

Empower young learners as a special education professional in a dynamic, collaborative environment supporting elementary students with significant cognitive, communication, and emotional needs. This full-time, contract-based opportunity runs through June 2027 and is located onsite at a well-resourced educational center near Oxford, MI. You will be part of a dedicated team supporting students in a program resembling an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) model, facilitated under Cognitive Impairment (CI) certification standards.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Cognitive Impairment (CI) teaching certification (required)
- Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder preferred
- Proficiency in crisis management and de-escalation strategies
- Familiarity with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems a strong plus
- Passion for helping students overcome self-regulation and complex communication challenges
- Ability to support students facing mental health difficulties within an elementary school setting
- Committed to an onsite role; remote options are not available
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction tailored to CI/ASD student needs
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, therapists, and aides
- Implement behavioral interventions and crisis management techniques when necessary
- Utilize communication devices and supports for nonverbal or minimally verbal students
- Develop, monitor, and adapt IEP goals in collaboration with other professionals and families
- Foster a supportive classroom culture that encourages growth, communication, and regulation
The schedule features consistent daytime hours from 7:30 am to 2:45 pm, Monday through Friday, with a supportive team approach.
