Special Education Teacher in Oxford, NC
Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting middle and high school students in a dynamic special education setting for the 2026-2027 academic year. This contract position offers full-time hours, Monday through Friday, with a schedule from 7:15am to 3:15pm. You'll serve a caseload of approximately 12 students in a self-contained classroom environment for those with mild to moderate needs, as well as play a pivotal role in inclusion settings.
In this role, you may support both intensive needs middle school students and self-contained high school classrooms. There are also opportunities to work in inclusion environments, collaborating closely with school staff to ensure student success. Responsibilities include providing direct instruction, maintaining effective classroom management, implementing IEPs, and adapting teaching methods to meet students' diverse learning and behavioral needs. You’ll also support small groups in the neighboring STEM School, promoting a well-rounded educational experience.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Credentialed to teach special education; comfortable with self-contained and inclusion settings
- Demonstrated experience with mild to moderate disabilities; intensive needs experience a plus
- Background or interest in English preferred for inclusion roles (not required)
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Excellent classroom management, differentiation, and IEP implementation abilities
- Resource setting experience highly valued
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction based on student IEPs
- Collaborate with related service providers and general educators
- Support academic, behavioral, and functional needs of students
- Document student progress and adapt plans as needed
