Special Education Teacher in Semmes, AL
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Special Education Teacher serving elementary students in a dynamic, supportive educational setting. This position is located near Semmes, AL, and an immediate start is available, continuing through the end of May 2027. This on-site, self-contained classroom role focuses on grades K-5, offering dedicated instruction and support alongside another experienced special educator.
As a travel candidate, you’ll have the chance to make a real difference in a school that has not had a dedicated Special Education teacher for three years—helping to break up and specialize the caseload for optimal student growth. This role works with a cohort of 20 students, providing tailored education and support, including some toileting assistance as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active Educator Certification required (images of licenses to be presented upon request)
- Experience as a Special Education Teacher in elementary school settings preferred
- Confidence in working within a self-contained classroom
- Ability to collaborate with school staff to split caseloads and enhance learning outcomes
- Compassion and patience for working with students with varying needs
- Willingness to travel for the assignment
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction and support to students K–5th grade
- Coordinate with another SPED teacher to divide caseload for comprehensive student care
- Collect and document progress data to inform IEP goals and family communication
- Assist with activities of daily living, including some toileting responsibilities
- Engage collaboratively with school administration and colleagues for holistic student support
This is a full-time contract role, 35 hours per week, with consistent daytime hours from 7:45am–3:15pm, Monday through Friday.
