Special Education Teacher - Sterling, AK
Make a difference every day as a Special Education Teacher supporting a diverse group of K-12 students. In this contract position located near the beautiful Sterling, AK area, you'll be instrumental in providing individualized support and instruction for students with varying needs. You'll work a full-time schedule—40 hours across five days each week—collaborating with colleagues and families to create positive learning experiences. Qualifications & Requirements:
- Valid Special Education (SPED) teaching license required
- Relevant teaching credentials/certifications in Special Education
- Experience working with K-12 students in inclusive or self-contained settings strongly preferred
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet varied academic and behavioral needs
- Excellent organization, communication, and documentation skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s unique needs
- Deliver differentiated instruction in both group and one-on-one settings
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including support staff and families
- Manage and document student progress, maintaining accurate records in compliance with district and state guidelines
- Utilize positive behavioral interventions to foster an inclusive classroom environment
- Regularly assess student performance and adjust teaching approaches as needed
