Special Education Teacher | Temple, Texas

Take the next step in your specialized teaching career by supporting K-5 students in a self-contained Alternate Learning/Life Skills classroom. This contract role spans from now until May 27, 2027. You’ll serve a caseload of 10 students with intellectual disabilities, autism, traumatic brain injuries, and a range of medically complex needs. Work alongside two experienced paraprofessionals and benefit from dedicated curriculum resources tailored for learners with significant academic and functional challenges.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active Texas Special Education Certification (required)
- EC-6 Certification (required)
- Proven experience or strong interest in supporting students with significant academic or functional needs
- Ability to adapt instruction and materials to meet diverse learning requirements
- Strong collaboration skills for working with support staff and families
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) based on each student’s specific needs
- Deliver instruction aligned with district-provided curriculum resources, focusing on foundational academic, functional, and life skills
- Maintain an organized, safe, and inclusive classroom environment
- Supervise, guide, and collaborate with two paraprofessional team members
- Monitor and document student progress; communicate regularly with parents and IEP team members
- Address a variety of student support needs, adapting approaches for intellectual, behavioral, and medical challenges
Role Details:
- Full-time, contract position (37.5 hours/week, Monday–Friday)
- Daily schedule: 7:15 AM – 3:15 PM; 30-minute unpaid lunch
