Key Responsibilities
Provide specialized instruction and academic support to students with disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and objectives
Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs
Assess student progress and maintain accurate educational records and documentation
Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to support student achievement
Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, and multidisciplinary team discussions
Implement behavior intervention plans and classroom management strategies as needed
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education regulations
Support students in developing academic, social, emotional, and life skills
Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field
Active Washington, DC Special Education Teaching License or eligibility to obtain licensure
Experience developing and implementing IEPs
Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Ability to work effectively with students with a variety of learning, behavioral, and developmental needs
Preferred
Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field
Previous experience in a school-based special education setting
Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder, emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, or multiple disabilities
Familiarity with assistive technology and differentiated instruction strategies
Experience with progress monitoring, data collection, and behavioral supports
