Special Education Teacher - Whitehall, Pennsylvania

Step into a meaningful contract opportunity supporting students with diverse needs during the 2026–2027 academic year! Special Education Teachers are needed in various specialized programs spanning Lehigh and Carbon counties. As an Itinerant Substitute, you'll bring your expertise and adaptability to a variety of classroom environments—covering assignments in programs including enhanced autism support, emotional support, and multiple disabilities classrooms.
This position offers a school-calendar schedule beginning August 10, 2026, through June 11, 2027, at approximately 35 hours a week. Teachers will work at sites within a 35-minute commute from their residence, responding to program needs and providing both short- and longer-term support where their impact is most needed.
What We’re Looking For:
- Current or eligible Pennsylvania Special Education certification, depending on program assignment
- Demonstrated success teaching in a special education classroom
- Experience implementing IEP goals and delivering specialized instruction
- Strong classroom management and behavioral support skills
- Flexible mindset, ready to adapt to changing assignments and student populations
- Ability to work collaboratively with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families
- Especially valued: backgrounds in Autism Support, Emotional Support, Multiple Disabilities, behavioral health, or IU/specialized settings
What You’ll Do:
- Support specialized programs (including Enhanced Autism, MDS Functional, Enhanced Emotional Support, and MDS Level B Classrooms)
- Deliver individualized instruction and support in classroom environments tailored to varying academic, behavioral, social, and communication needs
- Serve as a strong resource for both students and colleagues during vacancies, leaves, and assignment changes
- Provide consistency, encouragement, and structure as students progress through their academic journey
