Step into a meaningful contract opportunity supporting students across a range of specialized educational programs in the Lehigh and Carbon County area for the 2026–2027 school year. This itinerant substitute position places certified Special Education Teachers in dynamic classroom environments—covering vacancies, teacher leaves, and special assignments as needed within several specialized programs.
You will provide critical support to students with diverse academic, communication, and behavioral needs. Adaptability, a strong behavioral background, and the ability to quickly engage with new teams are key.
Key Qualifications:
- Active Pennsylvania Special Education certification (required/preferred based on assignment)
- Demonstrated special education teaching experience
- Strong classroom management and behavioral intervention skills
- Experience with IEP implementation and differentiated instruction
- Ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families
- Flexibility to serve multiple classrooms and programs within a commuting radius
Preferred Experience:
- Autism programming, ABA-informed strategies, BIPs, and sensory supports
- Supporting students with significant disabilities, adapted curriculum, and life skills
- Emotional support settings and behavioral health experience
- Prior work in IU or specialized school settings
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality instruction and behavioral support in assigned classrooms, covering vacancies and leaves
- Support students with varied academic and social-emotional needs
- Adapt quickly to different teaching environments and programs, including Enhanced Autism, Emotional Support, and MDS Functional classrooms
- Implement and monitor IEP goals, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and partner with families
Assignments follow a 35-hour school-week schedule and run from August 10, 2026, through June 11, 2027, with site assignment flexibility required to meet district needs. Candidates must reside within approximately 35 minutes of assigned program locations.
