Special Education Teacher | Adams, Massachusetts
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity serving young learners as a Special Education Teacher in a supportive school environment near Pittsfield, MA. This full-time role focuses on students with significant cognitive and physical disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum and some who are non-verbal. You’ll work within substantially separate classrooms (K-1st or 3rd-5th grade), collaborating closely with related service professionals, including Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) for some students.
Your responsibilities will include providing specially designed instruction tailored to each student’s IEP, supporting communication and functional life skills, and actively participating in toileting routines and daily living support. You will be a vital advocate and resource for your students, working closely with families and school teams to maximize student potential and growth.
Desired experience and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or related field (required)
- Valid state teaching credential for Special Education
- Previous work with students who have significant physical, cognitive, or communication needs—especially in substantially separate classroom settings
- Experience with applied behavior analysis and/or specially designed instruction preferred
- Ability to provide hands-on support with toileting and other self-care needs
- Comfortable working with both verbal and non-verbal students, and those on the autism spectrum
- Collaborative mindset for working with paraprofessionals, families, and therapy providers
