Special Education Teacher - Aurora, Illinois
Step into a rewarding role shaping early education as an Instructional Teacher in a close-knit, self-contained classroom for Kindergarten and 1st-grade students. Engage with a small group of around six students, many of whom utilize AAC devices, and make a genuine difference through innovative instruction and assistive technology support. This contract position begins August 19th and follows a consistent school day schedule from 8:15 am to 3:45 pm.
Your expertise in special education and assistive technology will play a vital role in helping each child reach their fullest potential, communicate effectively, and thrive within a supportive learning environment.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 Endorsement required
- Previous experience teaching in a self-contained special education classroom
- Proficiency with assistive technology, particularly AAC devices
- Ability to implement individualized instruction based on IEPs
- Strong collaborative skills for working with support staff and families
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive classroom culture
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide differentiated instruction to a low-incidence caseload of Kindergarten and 1st-grade students
- Integrate and support use of AAC and other assistive technologies throughout the school day
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals, tracking student progress
- Coordinate with speech, occupational, and other related service providers
- Maintain communication with families, sharing student growth and needs
- Create engaging lesson plans tailored to the unique abilities and interests of each student
