6th Grade 4th Grade Special Education Teacher | Aurora, Illinois

Step into a rewarding contract position guiding and supporting learners in a specialized 3rd–6th grade classroom. This full-time, onsite opportunity involves teaching students with diverse abilities, including those who are non-verbal and use AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices. The environment serves both a school and a residential program, providing comprehensive support for students who may display adverse or aggressive behaviors, including self-harm, property destruction, elopement, and aggression. Your expertise will be instrumental in fostering growth, communication, and a sense of security for each individual.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Valid and active Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement required
- Experience as a Special Education Teacher in classroom settings, ideally with 3rd–6th grade students
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with AAC devices for non-verbal communication
- Confidence working with students exhibiting challenging behaviors or requiring heightened behavioral supports
- Comfortability managing incidents such as aggression, property destruction, and self-harm in a calm, professional manner
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute meaningfully to student care
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored instruction and interventions to meet each student’s unique educational and behavioral needs
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in close cooperation with parents and staff
- Utilize AAC and other communication supports in engaging lesson delivery
- Maintain a safe, structured classroom environment
- Monitor and document progress, adapting strategies as needed
- Support students through behavioral episodes, following established protocols for safety and care
Compensation for this position ranges between $38–$48 per hour based on your skills and experience.
