These programs support students with mild to severe disabilities and varying behavioral needs within self-contained classroom environments. Candidates should bring patience, creativity, and resilience to foster a supportive, structured atmosphere.
Qualified applicants should have:
- A valid Special Education Teaching License (substitute certifications are not accepted)
- Emotional Impairments certification or Autism endorsement required
- For High School Autism placements: a bachelor’s degree with an existing ASD or Special Education endorsement, or the willingness to enroll in requisite coursework to obtain the ASD endorsement (valid special education certification is a must)
- Experience working with students demonstrating significant disabilities and a range of challenging behaviors
- Commitment to individualized instruction and positive behavior support strategies
Additional notes:
- No district-provided supervision (e.g., para, RBT, CNA, or LPN in classrooms)
- There may be potential assistance to help applicants with emergency certification if needed, given the long lead time before the school year begins
