Special Education Teacher | Cambridge, Maryland

A full-time Special Education Teacher is sought to provide tailored instruction and advocacy for high school students, with opportunities to assist elementary students as well. This contract position offers a dynamic school setting where your certified expertise makes a daily difference.
Responsibilities include designing and delivering individualized education plans for students with a range of disabilities, including Other Health Impairments (OHI), learning disabilities, autism, and language impairments. Caseloads are flexible and typically include about 10-15 students at any time. Most services occur within the general education classroom, promoting student inclusion and collaboration with teachers and support staff.
Desired Qualifications:
- Certified Special Education Teacher
- Experience working with high school-age students; openness to supporting elementary-aged students as needed
- Knowledge of current special education best practices and legal requirements
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for partnering with general education teachers and families
- Comfort adapting curriculum and instruction for diverse learning styles and abilities
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive classroom experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student’s unique needs and strengths
- Deliver instruction primarily within the general education setting, providing accommodations and modifications
- Collaborate with general educators, specialists, and families to support student progress
- Monitor, document, and assess student progress, adjusting strategies as needed
- Foster a supportive and engaging learning environment for all students
