Special Education Teacher in Cranston, RI
Step into a vital role supporting high school students with significant behavioral and emotional needs. This full-time, contract opportunity calls for two dedicated Special Education professionals to provide a positive and structured learning environment where every student can thrive. The assignment runs from now through June 18, 2027, offering educators the chance to make a lasting impact throughout the school year.
You’ll work with a caseload of high school students in a self-contained or sub-separate classroom, focusing on specialized instructional strategies for learners with Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD) or severe behavioral challenges. Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, you'll develop individualized education plans, support students in overcoming barriers to learning, and foster their academic and personal growth in a supportive setting.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Special Education license for the appropriate grade band.
- Certification in, or willingness to complete within one year, Structured Literacy proficiency as required by the Rhode Island Right to Read Act.
- Knowledge and experience in managing classrooms serving students with EBD or severe behavioral challenges.
- Proven ability to create individualized lesson plans and track student progress.
- Strong skills in crisis intervention, behavioral management, and differentiated instruction.
Role Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver instruction tailored to the needs of students with significant behavioral and emotional challenges.
- Maintain detailed IEP documentation and monitor progress toward goals.
- Collaborate closely with related service providers, support staff, and families to ensure comprehensive student support.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies and create a safe, structured environment.
- Participate in ongoing professional development as needed.
