Step into a vital role empowering students in a self-contained academic life skills program. Work full-time, Monday through Friday (8:35 AM – 3:30 PM), in a supportive, collaborative educational environment providing dedicated instruction to students with autism, Down syndrome, and complex medical needs. As a Special Education Teacher, you’ll make a daily difference, offering adapted instruction and implementing vital classroom and medical accommodations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 Endorsement
- Proven experience teaching in self-contained special education settings
- Strong background in supporting low-incidence and life-skills populations
- Expertise in adapting academic and life skills curriculum
- Excellent organizational skills for effective IEP management
- Collaborative spirit for working alongside paraprofessionals, therapists, and families
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a self-contained classroom with a caseload of 7–9 students
- Deliver individualized academic and functional life skills instruction
- Develop, update, and manage IEPs while maintaining compliance
- Provide appropriate classroom and medical accommodations ensuring student safety
- Foster a nurturing and engaging learning atmosphere
- Communicate regularly with families and multidisciplinary teams
- Guide paraprofessionals and support staff within the classroom
- Support students with personal care needs as required
