Make a difference working as a contract Special Education Teacher supporting students with autism or emotional impairments in the Detroit area. In this role, you’ll join a dedicated team providing essential services across multiple school sites for the new school year. With two positions open for autism specialists (maternity leave coverage) and two for emotional impairments at the elementary level (full-year placement), you’ll play a vital part in helping students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Special Education Teacher Certification
- SV Autism Spectrum Disorder or Emotional Impairments endorsement (emergency/temporary licenses not accepted)
- Familiarity with Autism programs, comfortable supporting students with mild to severe behaviors, including potential aggressive behaviors
- Knowledge of or willingness to complete START training
- Experience in center-based programs is valued
- Ability to meet Michigan MCL 380.1531 & Administrative Rules for teacher certification
- Previous work with students on the autism spectrum is preferred
- Commitment to full-time hours aligned with school calendars
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver individualized instructional programs tailored to students’ IEPs
- Implement age-appropriate interventions and behavioral supports
- Collaborate with school staff, related service providers, and families
- Create a safe, supportive environment that fosters growth and student engagement
- Adapt strategies to meet a diverse range of student needs
- Maintain compliance with district, state, and federal special education guidelines
