Special Education Teacher - Elgin, Illinois
Step into a rewarding role supporting middle school students as a Special Education Teacher in a contract position near Elgin, IL. This opportunity allows you to make a meaningful difference, working half days at two collaborating middle schools just minutes apart. You’ll guide 8th grade students through both co-taught and resource settings, helping them build essential skills in welcoming classroom environments.
As a resource and co-taught instructor, you’ll be part of a supportive educational community dedicated to student growth and success. The schedule offers consistent hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:20 am to 2:50 pm, and Wednesday until 3:05 pm. The school year begins August 17, 2026 (with the chance to attend new teacher orientation the week prior) and concludes May 28, 2027, covering 35 hours each week plus a 30-minute lunch break daily.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Active LBSI certification or eligibility required
- Demonstrated experience supporting students in special education/resource settings, especially at the middle school level
- Confident working independently and collaboratively in co-taught classrooms
- Strong instructional skills to address diverse learning needs
- Ability to develop and implement effective resource interventions
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide instructional support in both resource and co-teaching environments for 8th grade students
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt lessons and foster inclusion
- Develop IEP goals and participate in meetings
- Track and report student progress
- Foster a positive, encouraging classroom climate
