Special Education Teacher | Elgin, Illinois
Step into a meaningful educational role supporting students in a self-contained special education classroom for 4th and 5th graders. This contract opportunity focuses on delivering individualized support to a small group of 7-8 students, within a collaborative and accommodating learning community. Daily hours span from 8:05 am to 3:35 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 8:05 am to 3:50 pm on Wednesdays, with a 30-minute lunch break each day. The assignment begins on August 17, 2026, with the option to participate in a comprehensive new teacher orientation from August 5-11, and continues through May 28, 2027.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with credentials in Special Education (LBSI or equivalent)
- Proven experience in self-contained programming, especially in elementary settings
- Familiarity with Unique Learning System, STAR curriculum, or similar instructional approaches
- Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, thriving in a team environment
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom atmosphere
Role Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver differentiated instruction tailored to each student’s needs
- Collect and analyze data to monitor progress and inform instruction
- Collaborate closely with a network of supportive colleagues, related service providers, and families
- Maintain thorough documentation and comply with all special education regulations
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events as required
