Seeking a dedicated Special Education professional for a contract sub position in a high school Emotional Disabilities (ED) classroom, serving 11th and 12th grade students. This opportunity offers hands-on classroom experience in a supportive educational setting, contributing directly to students’ growth and academic success. The assignment will provide coverage for up to 12 weeks and requires a consistent onsite presence.
What we’re looking for:
- Valid New York State Teaching License with a High School endorsement
- Appropriate certification for an ED classroom (Emotional Disabilities)
- Previous experience as a Special Education Teacher, particularly in high school settings
- Ability to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies for students with diverse needs
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to positive behavioral supports and tailored student engagement
Primary responsibilities:
- Lead instruction for 11th and 12th grade students in a high school ED classroom
- Implement IEP goals, monitor student progress, and participate in IEP meetings
- Collaborate with other teachers, paraprofessionals, and school staff to create a supportive learning environment
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and behavior
- Serve either as the lead teacher or as a long-term substitute, depending on classroom needs
- Foster an inclusive and encouraging atmosphere for all learners
