Multiple contract opportunities are available for licensed Special Education Teachers, supporting K-12 students in self-contained and resource classrooms for the 2026-2027 school year. With up to 11 positions open, you’ll work alongside an experienced special education team, dedicated paraprofessionals, and behavior specialists—all within a supportive urban district.
Key Requirements & Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with an endorsement in Learning Disabilities (LD), Emotional Impairment (EI), or Cognitive Impairment (CI); Early Childhood (ZA) with an additional special education area also considered
- Previous experience in a special education setting, ideally with diverse urban populations
- Knowledge of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and IDEA Federal Regulations
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique challenges and resources applicable to urban student populations
- Ability to manage caseloads that vary by classroom and student need
- Comfort with in-person teaching; not open to virtual/remote work
- Official university transcripts will be required prior to assignment
Responsibilities:
- Teach and manage up to 22 students in self-contained classrooms or provide resource support for students with learning, emotional, or cognitive disabilities
- Develop and implement IEPs tailored to individual student needs
- Foster an inclusive, nurturing, and positive classroom environment
- Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and LSS department staff
- Participate in ongoing professional development and mentorship programs
