Desired Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teacher Certification with a preference for endorsements in Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitive Impairment (CI), Learning Disabilities (LD), or MDE endorsement ZA (Early Childhood) plus one additional special education area
- Experience working with urban student populations, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and flexibility
- Familiarity with MARSE (Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education) and IDEA federal guidelines
- Strong communication skills and collaborative spirit
- Ability to provide strategies and resources for students and families managing the unique challenges of urban education
- Official university transcripts required prior to district consideration
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction to students in self-contained or resource settings, tailoring lesson plans to meet IEP goals and accommodate individual needs
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and school teams to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including assessments and progress reports in accordance with state and federal requirements
- Participate in ongoing professional development and mentorship programs
- Engage in training from the Academics team and connect with fellow special education professionals for support
- Support students and families by identifying appropriate resources and interventions for success
