Multiple positions are open for the 2026-2027 school year (August 17 to June 11), working onsite with a dedicated team in self-contained and resource classroom environments. These roles offer a chance to contribute meaningfully to K-12 students, with a focus on Cognitive Impairment and Learning Disabilities, as well as potential placements requiring endorsement in Emotional Impairment or Early Childhood Special Education.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate; strong preference for endorsements in Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitively Impaired (CI), or Learning Disabilities (LD). Early Childhood Special Education (ZA) endorsement is also valued.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field; official university transcripts required prior to placement consideration.
- Deep understanding of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and IDEA federal regulations.
- Experience working in urban school settings and supportive of students and families in these communities.
- Willingness to share strategies for meeting the unique challenges faced by urban children.
- Comfortable teaching in-person and collaborating with classroom paraprofessionals and other support staff.
- Strong communication, resourcefulness, and adaptability skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage caseloads of up to 22 self-contained students or resource classroom groups as assigned.
- Develop and adapt individualized education programs (IEPs) in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide direct instruction and instructional support tailored to student needs.
- Maintain accurate records and ongoing communication with families and school staff.
- Actively participate in ongoing mentorship, professional development, and district-wide training initiatives.
- Foster an inclusive, nurturing classroom atmosphere.
