As part of a collaborative school-based team, you’ll design and implement individualized instruction to empower students with the tools they require to thrive.
What you bring:
- Valid Virginia Special Education Teaching License, or eligibility to obtain one
- Background in developing and executing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Knowledge of special education compliance procedures and documentation
- Strong classroom management, positive behavior support, and organizational skills
- Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary colleagues and families
- Dedication to inclusive, student-centered educational practices
Preferred experience:
- Previous teaching experience with students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Work within self-contained classroom settings
- Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), structured teaching methods, visual schedules, social stories, and augmentative/alternative communication
- Comfort with supporting students facing significant behavioral and cognitive needs
- Crisis prevention or de-escalation training
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver targeted instruction according to IEP goals and state standards
- Utilize evidence-based practices and accommodations to meet diverse student needs
- Implement and monitor Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
- Supervise, train, and support paraprofessional staff in the classroom
- Maintain compliance documentation and regularly assess student progress
- Foster communication, social, and self-regulation skills in an engaging, safe classroom atmosphere
