Special Education Teacher in Fredericksburg, VA

Key Qualifications:
- Current Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility to obtain one
- Demonstrated skill in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Understanding of special education compliance, documentation, and reporting
- Effective classroom management and an ability to deliver behavior support
- Strong collaboration skills with families and multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Background working in a self-contained classroom environment
- Knowledge of ABA principles, structured teaching, visual schedules, social stories, and functional communication systems
- Familiarity with supporting learners with more complex cognitive and behavioral needs
- Training in crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques
Role Responsibilities:
- Develop and carry out IEPs tailored to each student’s needs
- Provide direct, standards-aligned instruction that supports individualized goals
- Apply evidence-based strategies specific to autism spectrum disorders
- Implement PBIS and behavior intervention plans to encourage positive outcomes
- Supervise and guide paraprofessional staff in the classroom
- Maintain all compliance documentation and monitor student progress closely
- Encourage growth in self-regulation, social interaction, independence, and communication
- Sustain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment
