Special Education Teacher in Garland, TX
Step into a rewarding contract role supporting elementary students in a dynamic, student-centered environment near Garland, TX! We’re seeking eight compassionate Special Education Teachers to serve at one assigned elementary school site, shaping positive learning experiences for the 2026-2027 school year. You’ll work on-site (not open to remote/VOCO) starting August 11, 2026, through May 28, 2027, with a 37.5 hour full-time weekly schedule.
In this role, educators will support a specialized classroom environment: opportunities include life skills, autism-support, behavior-focused, or a medically fragile unit—each offering unique chances to make a real difference. You’ll collaborate with paraprofessionals, nurses, and related service providers in self-contained, centralized classrooms, helping students engage in small group rotations while participating in school-wide activities like art, PE, and lunch periods.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Valid Texas Special Education Teacher certificate (EC-12)
- Ability to secure TEA fingerprint clearance if not already completed for another public school district
- Experience in life skills, autism spectrum disorders, behavioral classrooms, or medically fragile populations preferred
- Exceptional communication, patience, and classroom management skills
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs
- Provide direct instruction in self-contained settings, using evidence-based strategies
- Collaborate with school staff, including paraprofessionals and nurses, to support holistic student development
- Track and document student progress, ensuring compliance with IDEA and state standards
- Engage students in school activities, promoting inclusion and positive peer interactions
