You’ll be working closely with students who are in various stages of verbal development and may require hands-on assistance with feeding, toilet training, and managing behaviors. Your commitment and creativity will help lay a strong foundation for these children, many of whom are non-verbal or have low verbal abilities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Valid GaPSC Teaching Certificate
- Endorsements in both Special Education and General Education for Pre-K
- Experience or strong interest in early childhood special education
- Comfort with hands-on care including toileting/diapering and assisted feeding
- Skillful in managing behaviors and creating an inclusive classroom environment
- Compassionate approach with patience for developmental differences
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement individualized educational programs for Pre-K students with special needs
- Provide direct care with positive reinforcement, including assistance during toileting and feeding
- Support communication development, including alternative and augmentative communication methods
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and families
- Monitor and document student progress, adapting strategies to meet their evolving needs
- Foster a nurturing, safe, and engaging classroom
