Special Education Teacher in Trussville, AL

In this contract role, you’ll be supporting students in grades 3-6 in a self-contained classroom. You’ll work closely with 1-2 classroom aides, with a starting caseload of 5-6 students, potentially growing to 8 through the year. This is a full-time position, scheduled for 37.5 hours per week onsite.
Qualifications:
- Current Alabama Special Education Teacher certification (or eligibility for reciprocity—plan for a 6-week process)
- Experience working in self-contained special education settings preferred
- Strong skills in classroom management, lesson adaptation, and individualized instruction
- Ability to effectively collaborate with aides, support staff, and families
- Excellent communication, patience, and a passion for making an impact
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s unique needs
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for elementary-aged students
- Coordinate daily activities in collaboration with classroom aides to support academic and social-emotional growth
- Monitor student progress and maintain detailed records
- Communicate regularly with parents, school staff, and district personnel
