Special Education Teacher | Naperville, Illinois
Make a meaningful impact during the 2026-2027 school year by supporting students with significant behavioral needs in an engaging classroom environment. Educators in this contract position will work with either 3rd-5th or 6th-8th grade students, each classroom capped at 13 learners and supported by two dedicated paraprofessionals. The focus is on fostering replacement behaviors for students demonstrating eloping, defiance, physical aggression, refusal, and similar challenges. Extensive training, including CPI de-escalation, ensures you and your classroom team are equipped with effective, preventive strategies; while physical restraint is not utilized, all staff receive comprehensive support and guidance.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Illinois Special Education Teacher certification and Professional Educator License (PEL) required
- Experience with significant behavior challenges strongly preferred
- Passion for teaching replacement behaviors and supporting student growth
- Ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals and related service providers
- Willingness to receive CPI de-escalation training
What You’ll Do:
- Plan and deliver individualized special education instruction to students with behavioral needs
- Model and teach replacement behaviors, using evidence-based instructional methods
- Foster a structured, safe, and positive classroom environment
- Lead and mentor paraprofessionals in behavior and instructional supports
- Develop and implement effective behavior intervention plans
- Utilizes data to monitor student progress and inform instruction
