Special Education Teacher in Naperville, IL

Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting 3rd–8th grade students with significant behavioral needs for the 2026/2027 school year. In this contract position you’ll make a lasting impact: teaching essential replacement behaviors that empower students to thrive socially and academically. You’ll collaborate with a dedicated team, serve manageable caseloads (no more than 13 students per group), and benefit from support from two experienced paraprofessionals in each classroom.
Requirements:
- Valid Illinois Special Education Certification (LBS1) and Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Experience working with students displaying significant behavioral challenges, including elopement, defiance, physical aggression, and refusal
- Strong knowledge of behavior intervention strategies and principles of positive behavioral support
- A collaborative spirit, adaptability, and patience
- Enthusiasm for receiving ongoing training, including CPI de-escalation (full training provided; physical restraint is not utilized)
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement individualized instruction promoting the development of replacement behaviors
- Maintain a supportive, structured classroom atmosphere for effective learning
- Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals to deliver consistent strategies
- Collect and analyze behavioral and academic data to inform instructional decisions
- Communicate consistently with families and related services staff regarding student progress
- Participate actively in professional development, including behavioral de-escalation training
- Foster a positive and encouraging climate for students with diverse needs
