Special Education Teacher | Norlina, North Carolina
Step into a role where your expertise in special education makes a powerful difference for students with mild to moderate needs. This contract position runs from August 13, 2026, through June 3, 2027, with a full-time schedule, Monday through Friday, 7:15am to 3:15pm, totaling 37.5 hours per week.
Your responsibilities will include instruction and support in both self-contained and inclusion classrooms, across Middle School and High School settings. The caseloads average 12 students for self-contained classes and range from 23 to 40 for inclusion settings, with an additional assignment to support a small group of students in grades 6–8 at a nearby STEM school. Each day offers an opportunity to work closely with a diverse student population, tailoring instruction and collaborating with dedicated school staff to support educational growth.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid Special Education Teacher credentials (out-of-state considered if eligible for reciprocity)
- Experience instructing students with mild to moderate disabilities in self-contained or resource settings
- Comfortable managing a structured classroom environment with a variety of academic and behavioral needs
- Proven collaboration skills for working alongside general education teachers and support staff
- Familiarity with IEP development, progress monitoring, and documentation
- Preferably, a background in working with English Learners, particularly in inclusion settings, though not required
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized, standards-based instruction aligned to student IEPs
- Manage classroom routines and support positive behavior strategies
- Collaborate with colleagues on instructional strategies and inclusion practices
- Effectively communicate student progress with staff and families
- Support select students at the STEM school in grades 6–8
